Access to clean water and safe sanitation is a basic human right and a cornerstone of healthy, thriving communities. The Jonathan Ngenga Foundation works to bring reliable water and improved hygiene to the communities that need it most across Mwingi West, where long distances to water and inadequate sanitation continue to affect daily life, health and opportunity.

We develop and rehabilitate clean, reliable water points so families no longer have to walk long distances for safe water. By bringing water closer to homes, schools and health facilities, we reduce the daily burden carried disproportionately by women and girls, and free up time for education, work and family.

Alongside water access, we improve sanitation facilities in schools and public spaces — safe, dignified and gender-sensitive toilets that keep learners, especially girls, in school. Good sanitation in learning environments is essential for the health, attendance and confidence of every child.

We also run practical hygiene education and behaviour-change programs that help communities prevent waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid and diarrhoea. By promoting handwashing, safe water storage and good sanitation practices, we turn infrastructure into lasting health outcomes.

Our approach is community-driven and built to last. We engage local leaders, schools and households in planning and maintaining facilities, and we partner with local institutions so that every intervention is sustainable, locally owned, and able to serve generations to come.
