Transforming Communities,Raising Leaders, Securing the Future.
The Jonathan Ngenga Foundation (JNF) is a community-based nonprofit organisation headquartered in Kitui County, Kenya, committed to advancing sustainable development and people-driven transformation across Eastern Kenya and beyond.
Founded on the belief that lasting change begins within communities themselves, JNF works alongside local people to create practical, scalable, and sustainable solutions that improve livelihoods, unlock opportunity, and strengthen resilience.
Opening Doors Through Learning
JNF believes education is the most powerful equaliser. The Foundation supports access to quality learning through mentorship, vocational training, digital literacy, and
leadership development targeting children, youth, and vulnerable groups. Through education bursaries, school supplies, and learning support, over 1,800 students across
Kitui County have benefited from JNF’seducational programmes..
Building Sustainable
JNF supports sustainable livelihoods by promoting climate-smart agriculture, agribusiness innovation, poultry farming, and beekeeping. Working closely with
women, youth groups, and rural households, the Foundation improves food security, increases household incomes, and creates long-term economic resilience
across Eastern Kenya.
Nurturing the Next Generation of Leaders
Young people are the heartbeat of community transformation. JNF invests in youth leadership, entrepreneurship, sports, creativity, and mentorship as tools for social
change and economic inclusion. The Ngenga Cup Tournament, now in its 6th Edition, identifies and nurtures talent while building community cohesion and a spirit of
excellence across Kitui County.
Clean Water. Healthier Communities.
Access to clean water and sanitation is central to community health and dignity.JNF implements integrated water harvesting
gabions, and community earth dams. These interventions improve health outcomes, support year-round farming, and strengthen
resilience in underserved rural communities across Eastern Kenya.
Protecting the Earth for Generations Ahead
Eastern Kenya faces the combined effects of climate change, environmental degradation, and recurring drought. JNF responds through large-scale tree propagation, environmental conservation, climate awareness, and community resilience programmes. To date, JNF has propagated over one million indigenous drought-resistant seedlings and facilitated
the planting of over 500,000 trees across the region.
“Meaningful transformation is achieved not through temporaryinterventions, but through solutions that work, systems that endure, and opportunities that empower communities to lead their own progress.”
It is both an honour and a profound responsibility to serve as Patron of the Jonathan Ngenga Foundation. From its inception, the Foundation has been guided by a clear and unwavering purpose: to deliver practical, measurable, and sustainable solutions that improve lives, strengthen communities, and create lasting social and economic impact.
My engagement with communities across Eastern Kenya has shaped a deeply results oriented approach to development. I have witnessed firsthand the challenges familiesface, and also the resilience, potential, and determination that exist within our people.
This experience continues to inform everything we do.
